Maurica Richardson- Instructor/Choreographer

Maurica Richardson is from Charleston, WV. Maurica graduated from Marshall University's Family and Consumer Science Program with a BA in Retail Merchandising. She is currently the instructor for the Marshall University Marching Thunder Color Guard, and Co-Director of Vertigo Winter Guard, Huntington WV. She has a combined history of thirteen years of color guard and winter guard experience. After high school guard where she was captain for two years, Maurica marched five years with the Marshall University Marching Thunder Color Guard, where she was captain for three years, two of those years she also served as their choreographer. Maurica also marched with Capital Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, Columbus OH, and Expressions Winter Guard, Winchester KY. She auditioned for and was accepted into a world winter guard for the 2007 season but was unable to participate due to scheduling conflicts. Maurica previously instructed at Huntington High School, Huntington WV, Paul Blazer High School, Ashland KY, and South Charleston High School, South Charleston WV. She was previously the weapons choreographer & tech for Hurricane High School, Hurricane WV, and Reflections Winter Guard, Charleston WV, and flag choreographer & tech for Z Winter Guard, Ashland KY. Maurica has experience as a color guard adjudicator judging various competitions and auditions throughout the tri-state area. She is also available for private lessons. 
Maurica began guard because as a child she attended many band competitions and the guard always grabbed her attention. After watching the MU guard in '97 she fell in love and knew it was what she wanted to do. For fun Maurica enjoys dancing, playing with her dog, sewing, spending time with family & close friends, hiking, and traveling. Maurica's future plans involve moving out of state and eventually opening her own business. She would also like to march one more year of winter guard. Maurica likes most any music with a few exceptions, she loves Amos Lee & oldies. Her favorite place is anywhere sunny & warm. Maurica is a huge animal lover, she is very close to her family & close friends, she visits South Carolina quite frequently, and loves UNC Basketball.

Spencer is from Ripley WV and is a Senior Counseling Major. Spencer has six years of color guard and winter guard experience and is currently captain for Marshall Color guard for the second year. She has three years captain experience between high school and college. Spencer also marched with Vertigo Winter Guard, Huntington WV. She began guard because she thought it looked like fun. After graduation, Spencer would like to attend grad school somewhere south. For fun Spencer likes to go shopping or hang out with friends. Her favorite music is country. Her favorite vacation is the beach or Disney World, and her favorite color is pink!
Bethany Bias- Co Captain

Bethany is from Salt Rock, WV and is a Senior Social Work Major. Bethany has seven years of color guard experience and is currently the co-captain for Marshall Color guard for the second year. She was also show leader for two years in high school. When asked why she began guard Bethany replied “I have always loved dance and wanted to be part of Cabell Midland's Dance Team and Color guard.” After graduating Bethany plans to continue school and attend grad school to get her masters degree. For fun Bethany enjoys dancing, singing, and hanging out with friends. She loves listening to Contemporary Christian music. Her favorite place is Ireland. She loves the color ruby red, loves Betty-Boop, the Muppets, and reading mystery novels.
Emily Watson
Emily is from Salt Rock, WV and is a Junior. Emily has five years of color guard and winter guard experience. Emily marched with Vertigo Winter Guard, Huntington WV. Emily decided to start spinning because she wanted to get involved in high school and color guard looked like fun. For fun Emily likes to hang out with friends, watch movies, go shopping, and talk.
Ashley Bragg

Ashley is from Phoenix AZ, and is a junior Athletic Training Major. Ashley has six years of color guard experience which include two years captain experience in high school. Ashley has taught at Fountain Hills High School, Fountain Hills, AZ. Ashley began guard because she thought it would be fun to spin guns. After graduating, Ashley would like to do physical training for a college softball team. For fun, Ashley enjoys softball and archery, she has shot archery since she was six. Ashley's favorite music is rock but she will listen to anything. Her favorite place is California or Virginia. Ashley's favorite color is green.
Michael Rose

Michael is from Charleston, WV and is a Senior Music Education and Vocal Performance Major. Michael has three years of color guard experience. He began guard because some friends at Marshall convinced him into giving it a try. After graduation Michael would like to attend grad school in Texas, then either teach or perform. For fun Michael likes to read, play piano, cook, and dance. He likes to listen to all types of music except hard rock. New York city is his favorite place. His favorite color is green. Michael is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Allyson Jasper
Allyson is from Teays Valley WV, and is a Junior Elementary Ed/ Pre K Major. Allyson has six years of color guard experience including two years captain experience in high school. After graduation Allyson plans to teach. For fun Allyson likes to dance with her friends and help her mom with her third grade classes. Her favorite music is Techno, and her favorite color is black. Allyson’s favorite place is Rome, Italy. Allyson loves to dance all of the time, she enjoys putting smiles on her friends faces. She says she is really dependable and will always be there no matter the situation.
Jacob Smith
*Broadway*
Jacob is from Lavalette, WV and is a Junior Music Education Major. Jacob has four years of color guard experience which include two years captain experience in high school. Jacob was also a flag tech for a year at Gallia Academy High School, Gallipolis, OH. When Jacob was asked why he began guard he said “It was a lot more fun than marching instruments, and I love to perform for people.” After graduating Jacob plans to attend grad school to study studio and record production. He would love to work directly with an artist to know exactly how they want their sound to come out. For fun Jacob likes to play piano and create routines and choreography. Jacobs favorite color is blue, and he enjoys all types of music. His favorite place is Fort Myers, FL. He works at MU Rec Center. He says he has the worst performance anxiety even though he loves to be in the spotlight. Jacob is a member of Sigma Tau Gamma.
Jessica Shortridge
Jessica is from Winfield, WV and is a Senior Elementary Education Major. Jessica has four years of color guard experience which includes one year captains experience in high school. Jessica began guard because she has always loved performing and after a close friend showed her some guard stuff she fell in love. After graduating with a BA, Jessica would like to get a teaching position and continue school to get a masters degree. After she has taught for a few years she would like to interview to teach overseas. For fun Jessica likes to read, swim, and hang out with family and friends. She loves the beach, most any music, and loves the color pink!
Jordan Erby
Jordan is from Charleston, WV and is a Sophomore Business Major, and Dance Minor. Jordan has three years color guard experience including one year captains experience in high school. After graduation Jordan plans on owning his own dance studio. For fun Jordan likes to dance, sing, party, and have a good time. His favorite music is R&B and his favorite color is green. Jordan’s favorite place is the beach. He says he's nice and crazy and a great person to be around.

Cassidy is from Charleston WV, and is a Freshman Public Relations Major. Cassidy has seven years of color guard and winter guard experience, including two years captain experience. Cassidy marched with Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps, Toledo OH, and Reflections Winter Guard, Charleston WV. Cassidy began guard because after her first DCI & WGI experience she just fell in love. For fun, Cassidy enjoys hanging with friends, listening to music, shopping, dancing, and traveling. Her favorite place is New York City and her favorite color is blue. Cassidy loves the beach, shoes, and anything zebra print. Cassidy is extremely excited about being a MUCG member!
Kristina Carter

Kristina is from Kenova, WV and is a Freshman Chemistry Major. Kristina has four years color guard and winter guard experience. Kristina marched three years with Spring Valley Winter Guard, Spring Valley High School, Huntington WV. When Kristina was asked why she began guard she said “I was a tomboy growing up and i wanted to do something different and girly, and i thought that the fact that they spun rifles was so cool that I had to give it a try.” After graduation Kristina plans to attend Virginia Tech to receive a Veterinarian degree and then live in Richmond VA. For fun Kristina enjoys Church, hanging out with friends, and reading. Her favorite music is Justin Beiber and The Ready Set. Her favorite place is Florida, and favorite color orange. Kristina loves pandas, and football. Her favorite teams are Marshall and New York Giants.
Emily Lippman

Emily is from Williamstown, WV and is a Freshman Elementary Education Major. Emily has four years color guard and winter guard experience which include two years captain experience in high school. Emily marched three years with Prana Winter Guard, JW Mitchell High School, Trinity, FL. Emily said she began guard because she didn't want to play an instrument in the marching band and guard looked like fun. After graduating Emily would like to teach elementary school as well as teach color guard at a high school. Besides spinning, for fun Emily likes to hang out with friends, shop, and listen to music, which she enjoys all types of music. Her favorite color is green. Emily's favorite place is Florida. She lived in Florida for most of her life and has only lived in West Virginia for two years. She also has a younger brother.
Alyssa Sthay

Alyssa is from Naperville, IL and is a Freshman. Alyssa has four years color guard and winter guard experience, which include one year captain experience/ instructor experience in high school. Alyssa marched with Naperville North Northern Lights winter guard, Naperville North High School, Naperville IL, and also instructed them for one year. Alyssa began guard because the girls she cheered with in junior high, did guard in high school and they got her interested. After graduating, Alyssa is unsure of what she would like to do but she does enjoy traveling. For fun, Alyssa enjoys singing, dancing, and hanging out with friends. Alyssa likes a lot of different music but really likes My Chemical Romance. Her favorite place is a park near her house and her favorite color is purple. Alyssa also loves to dye her hair and switch up her look, she is a middle child, she has a tattoo, and she is super excited for the season to start.
Megan Watson

Megan is from Huntington, WV and is a Freshman Physical Therapy Major. Megan has four years of color guard and winter guard experience. Megan marched three years with Spring Valley Winter Guard, Spring Valley High School, Huntington WV. Megan taught one year with Buffalo Little League Majorettes. When Megan was asked why she began guard she replied “I loved twirling my batons and the only way to do it was to be on guard or in band a year. Turns out I love flag and rifle more than baton.” After graduation Megan would like to become a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant, buy a home and start a family. Megan's favorite type of music is Indie, Pop Punk, Folk Rock, and Rock. Her favorite vacations are Australia, Paris, or Florida. Her favorite color is green. Megan is kind of shy at first but not to be confused with being stuck up or snooty. Megan prefers to say busy, and she feels privileged to have the people in her life that she does.
Anna Williams

Anna is from Huntington WV, and is a Freshman Education Major. Anna has four years of color guard experience. Anna began guard because she is a dancer and wanted to branch out her dance experience. After graduating, Anna would like to begin teaching. For fun Anna likes to dance, read, and shop. Her favorite place is Tennessee and her favorite color is purple. Anna has been dancing since she was five.
Tawana Blackburn

Tawana is from Lincoln County, WV and is a Freshman Nursing Major. Tawana has four years of color guard experience which include two years captain experience in high school. Tawana began guard because it interested her and she wanted to be a member of the marching band. After graduation Tawana would like to move near the ocean and start a family. Besides spinning, for fun Tawana enjoys hanging out with friends. She enjoys all types of music. Her favorite vacation is Disney World, and her favorite color is yellow.
Taylor Mills

Taylor is from Huntington, WV and is a Freshman Chemistry Major. Taylor has four years of color guard and winter guard experience. Taylor marched three years with Spring Valley Winter Guard, Spring Valley High School, Huntington WV. Taylor began guard because she thought it would be fun and interesting. After graduating, Taylor would like to become a pharmacist. For fun, Taylor enjoys reading, listening to music, and hanging out with friends. Her favorite musicians are Justin Bieber and The Jonas Brothers. Her favorite place is Florida. She loves peacocks, Harry Potter, and purple is her favorite color.
Alyssa Hall

Alyssa is from Huntington WV, and is a Freshman Pre Professional Health Program Major. Alyssa has four years of color guard experience which include one year of captain experience in high school. Alyssa began guard because it was a new experience, a fun challenge, and an easy way of making friends. After graduation, Alyssa may attend grad school, and would like to get married and move to NYC. For fun Alyssa likes to dance, hang out with friends, scrapbook, attend church, and shop. Alyssa's favorite music is Contemporary Christian, Pop, and Alternative but enjoys listening to anything. Alyssa's favorite vacation is North Myrtle Beach, and her favorite color is pink! Alyssa loves giraffes, is obsessed with Disney princesses, and is excited about MUCG!!
Kayla Hudson

Kayla is from Poca, WV and is a Freshman Elementary Education Major. Kayla has four years of color guard experience which include two years captain experience in high school. Kayla began guard because she has always enjoyed watching color guard and it looked like fun. After graduation Kayla would like to become a teacher and start a family. For fun Kayla likes singing, playing music, and hanging out with friends, laughing. Kayla loves The Beatles but will listen to pretty much anything. Her favorite vacation is the Bahamas, and her favorite color is green.
Kelsi Barnes

Kelsi is from Louisville, KY and is a Freshman Athletic Training Major. Kelsi has three years of color guard experience which include two years captain experience in high school. Kesi has taught dance one year in her high school band show at Christian Academy of Louisville, Louisville KY, and one year at Center Stage Dance Co, Louisville, KY. Kelsi began guard because it gave her something fun to do and she could also use her dance background. After graduating Kelsi would like to become a physical therapist and open her own clinic as well as do some mission work. For fun Kelsi likes to play cards with friends and read. She likes Christian, Alternative, and Country music. Her favorite color is purple. Kelsi also loves to dance in her room to loud music and loves to act goofy with friends.
Blake Turley
Blake is from Poca, WV and is a Sophomore Elementary Education Major. Blake has two years of color guard experience which includes one year captains experience in high school. When Blake was asked why she began guard she said “As a child I'd watch the homecoming parade in my hometown every year and see the color guard performing with the band, and I always knew that's what I wanted to do when I got to high school.” After graduation Blake plans to teach kindergarden. For fun Blake enjoys twirling baton. She loves the beach. She is quiet until you get to know her. She likes a lot of different music and isn't too picky about it. Blake took ballet for almost eight years. Her favorite color is purple, and she was the feature twirler during her senior year of high school.
Jarod Myers

Jarod is from Gallipolis, OH and is a Sophomore Communication Disorders Major. This will be Jarod's first year of guard. He taught one year at Gallia Academy High School, Gallipolis, OH. Jarod said he began guard because he loved everything about it. After graduation he would love to move to a bigger city and live the “American dream.” For fun Jarod enjoys playing music and hanging out with friends. He listens to all types of music with the exception of hard rock. His favorite vacation spot is anywhere in the Gulf of Mexico. Jarod has a pacemaker, his favorite color is red, he has five tattoos, and is completely obsessed with classical Disney movies. Kathleen Hendricks

Kathleen is from Mason, WV and is a Junior Education Major. Kathleen has one year of color guard experience. Kathleen began guard because she thought it would be fun and she wanted to meet people who have some of the same interest as her. After graduation, Kathleen would like to teach math at the high school level. For fun Kathleen likes to hang out with friends, read, and babysit. Her favorite music is Country. Her favorite place is Hawaii and her favorite color is pink!
