2006 Scenes from the 1st Annual Quad-County Poker Run June 10, 2006
Our 1st attempt at a Poker Run was a great success! We had over 100 riders who enjoyed a 130 mile ride through Wetzel, Harrison, Ritchie and Tyler counties. The riders drew their final cards back at the American Legion Park in Hastings and the winners were determined to be Lydia Brown of Woodsfield with a first place poker hand of four kings and Belinda Gump of Reader with a second place hand of a full house. The winner received a cash prize of $100 and a large trophy and the runner-up received a cash prize of $50. Tickets were also sold for a 50/50 cash drawing and the winning ticket belonged to Ellen Horner of Jacksonburg. After the riders returned, several participated in a "Biker Rodeo" which consisted of games played while on the bikes, such as a ring toss, a balloon toss, a keg roll, a slow race, and a "Bite the Wienie" contest. Bill Jenkins of Middlebourne organized the games which were thoroughly enjoyed by both the particpants and the viewers in the crowd. The Alumni Association also sold raffle tickets for several weeks preceding the poker run for the first prize of a 2006 883 Harley-Davidson Sporter, second prize of $1000 and 3rd prize of $500. The winning tickets were drawn after the rodeo and Jamie Coen of Brilliant, OH was the winner of the Harley, Dave Fox of Sistersville claimed the $1000 2nd place prize and the recipient of the $500 has not yet been located. After all of the prizes were given and the games were complete, the participants enjoyed food and drinks while listening to the music of Focus, a local band whose members include David Ice, Gary Partridge, Sonny Smith and Justin Miller.
