Wrap-up for Class Acts-Earth, wind and fire:

Vernon Howell gave a conducted a Gallery Tour presenting his work on Sunday April 21, 2013.

These added talks helped make this one of the best shows the Renaissance Art Gallery ever staged. Each of these artists had the chance to tell their own unique stories, how their art developed over a life time. Purchased work can be picked up this weekend.

    "Class Acts--Earth, Wind & Fire"

The exhibition “Earth Wind and Fire – Class Acts” opened to a huge crowd Sunday March 10, 2013 at the Renaissance Gallery.

During the shows 6 week run, each of the artists will spend a weekend in the Renassiance Art Gallery to talk about art and demonstrate their own unique techniques.

Rabert’s painting presentation was about what he does and why he does it. This made for an interesting afternoon among artists. But his presentation was not just for artist but for anyone who is intrigued by art. When he spoke we all knew we were listening to not only an experienced artist but one who still had a passion for art. “I have a plan” he said. “when I paint with a plan I see results” He pointed out then when we look at art, whether we are an artist or not, our eye naturally looks for unity in the piece. Without this unity, the viewer will focus on the unbalanced bits. It is the responsibility of the artist to provide the unity and balance in art.

Pieces by these exceptional, local artists are consistently found in open or juried shows in the Tri-State region and in the State of West Virginia. One or two pieces in such a show however, often leave the viewer wishing for more. This exhibit offers the opportunity for a broader view of their work either over time or through the use of a variety of media.

What did people use before the pencil?

The pencil was not invented until the 1500, or rather, began to be developed then. So what did artists and engineers use before then to write, draw or even doodle? Come to the Renaissance Art Gallery this Saturday, December 1 and find out about the high art of Silverpoint, and other metals used for drawing before the pencil became popular. Our drawing teacher, Susan Tschantz, has been working in Silverpoint, testing and working with different metals and grounds.
