The 7th Annual Father’s Day ATV Ride, sponsored by the Shortline Alumni Association and organized by Buddy Highley, was held on June 15th at Crows Run in Reader. All proceeds went to the Keith Highley Scholarship Fund, which is managed by Wesbanco in Pine Grove. Four $500 scholarships were awarded this year to graduating VHS Seniors who are entering college and will also have a chance to receive an additional $500 if they complete their first semester with a 4.0 GPA. This was the first year that the ride has also incorporated a Poker Run. There were approximately 125 riders and 85 ATVs, motorcycles or dune buggies registering. The winner of a large trophy and a $50 gasoline card was Raymond Howell of New Martinsville, with the winning poker hand of a King high flush. The winner of the cushioned ATV storage seat was Elson Hinkle. Approximately $1500 was raised this year through the registration fees, raffle tickets and concessions. This fundraiser is held every year on Father's Day and is a family event. The trail is well-marked and many measures are in place to assure that all riders are safe and cannot get lost on the ride. Be sure to join us next year. |
