And Our Marshall Roots
Vertigo Winter Guard had a great time at the Preview Show at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester, Kentucky, on January 23, 2010. It was exciting to participate in our first TriState Circuit event, and it was great to catch up with old friends. Expressions Winter Guard was the only other Independent A Guard to participate in Preview and there are a lot of connections between the two guards.
Marcus Daniels, Director of Vertigo Winter Guard once instructed David Fonda, Director of Expressions Winter Guard and Randy Mills, Technician, Expressions Winter Guard. Marcus was David's and Randy's guard instructor at Marshall University. Marcus also instructed Maurica Richardson at Marshall. Maurica is Co-Director of Vertigo Winter Guard and is now the current guard instructor at Marshall University. All but one of Vertigo's members are also on fall guard at Marshall. While David and Randy were on the guard at Marshall, Maurica's brother Jeremy, Assistant Director of Vertigo, also marched with them in the MU Marching Thunder as a trumpet player. Jeremy is now the Assistant Band Director at Huntington High School where David graduated from and where Marcus is the current guard and dance team instructor. But wait that's not all...Maurica Richardson, Vertigo's Co-Director marched two years with Expressions Winter Guard under David and Randy and along with Alicia Collier who is now Expressions movement technician. Maurica and Alicia also marched Capital Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps together and they were bus partners! Did all of that make your head spin or what???
Anyway, we had a great time after the show when we took all of the guard members to have dinner together and let them get to know each other. We all enjoyed our time together visiting with old friends and getting to know new ones. Expressions, we are looking forward to seeing you again and spending more time with you this season! Best of luck with all of your performances.
