Baptism Is Baptism Necessary? (All Scripture is from the New International Version of the Bible) 13Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. (Ecclesiastes 12:13) 20Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. 21For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (II Peter 1:20, 21) 37Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all you heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it:'Love your neighbor as yourself'. 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." (Matthew 22:37-40) ________________________________________________________________ IS BAPTISM NECESSARY? 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. (Mark 16:16) 38Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you , in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off---for all whom the Lord our God will call" (Acts 2:38, 39) 5Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit." (John 3:5) 16'And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on His name.' (Acts 22:16) 1What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. (Romans 6:1-4) 12having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead. (Colossians 2:12) 21and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God.
